Tour Request

A tour request may be sent by e-mail to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. The request should include information about the group, including affiliation, any specific areas of interest, and the number of attendees. Upon receipt of the request, NETL faculty and staff members will collaboratively evaluate whether the tour can be accommodated. Considerations for tour request approvals include the current number of tour requests, the commitment to future UT student visits and departmental graduate recruiting trips, the available resources considering previous commitments, teaching schedules, and sponsor and research demands. If you have not received a response, or been notified that an alternate tour date/time will be necessary within 3 working days of your initial request, please contact Heather Cook at This email address is being protected from spambots. Once you receive an email response, please note that there are several further steps for a tour to be scheduled for your group.

First, it is important to note that, with a few exceptions identified in the Code of Federal regulations 10CFR73, visitors 18 and older are required to be cleared via background check. The signed background check form for each individual who will be visiting the facility is required to initiate the check. This process typically takes a couple of days but can require as long as 2 weeks to complete in certain circumstances. The completed and signed request for a background check should be emailed two weeks prior to the requested date to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Please be sure handwritten forms are legible. In addition, international students and visitors will also need to provide identification for visual compliance checks.

Next, a complete roster is required two weeks prior to any tour. The roster template will be provided via email and may be returned to NETL via This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Once these steps are completed the tour will be scheduled on the nuclear reactor calendar and confirmed. If you have not received notification that a tour may be arranged, or if you do not have a background check that indicates you are not a security risk for each adult, you will not be permitted to tour the NETL.

Finally, there are a few important notes for groups once confirmation is received and a scheduled time is confirmed:

  • Enclosed shoes and long pants are required (no sandals, Crocs, shorts etc.).
  • No recording devices (cameras, audio recorders) or transmitting devices (phones, pagers) are allowed on the tour.
  • Visitors under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Without proper supervision, access may be denied.
  • If you need ADA accommodations, please contact NETL at least five business days before the event.
  • Parking requires a UT valid permit. If you do not have a UT parking permit, you will need to purchase a visitor parking pass.
    • This may be done by securing it from the vending machine near the guard kiosk or use the ParkMobile App with zone 96113 (Apple store or Google play)
